Operation FINALLY HOME was established in 2005 and is committed to providing custom built, mortgage-free homes for America’s military heroes and the widows of the fallen soldiers. Altura Homes is a proud partner with Operation FINALLY HOME, the Dallas Builders Association and the Family of 3, A Robert Griffin III Foundation for this year’s operation finally home project.  Donnie Evans, the president of Altura Homes and the Home Builders Association is spearheading the project.

Altura Homes will construct the custom built home in Greenville, TX, with help from Dallas BA member donations and community support for U.S. Army First Sgt. Rivas Guillermo, a combat wounded veteran, and his family. Sgt. Rivas was surprised with a mortgage-free home on Memorial Day weekend following the Texas Rangers “Military Welcome.” Alongside his children, Sgt. Rivas was greeted by Altura’s own Justin Webb, along with Phil Crone of the Dallas BA and Robert Griffin III in front of a large crowd. Sgt. Rivas is a 26-year military career who first served in the Army National Guard beginning in September 1986 and later the U.S. Marine Corps in January 1993. During his military career, Rivas had been deployed in several tours, including Operation Desert Shield, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Storm in Kuwait. It was in 2005 that Rivas twisted his lower back when he fell into a hold during a night patrol. Then in 2009, Rivas suffered another back injury while jumping off a Bradley Fighting Vehicle. Though he has had several back surgeries he still has back pain and regularly gets injections and physical therapy. He also suffers from a knee and shoulder injuries, tinnitus, headaches, a traumatic brain injury, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The Rivas’ home is the fifth home that the Dallas Builders Association has built through operation finally home. Groundbreaking on Sgt. Rivas’ custom built home in Greenville began on June 22.
